The ISIJ will hold the international organized sessions during the 190th meeting to meet the necessity of globalization in the science and technology of iron, steel and other materials. In this session, the official language is English. The ISIJ welcomes participants from Japan and abroad to present papers at the International Organized Sessions focusing on current topics. Session A: Exploring the frontiers of next-generation microbiologically influenced corrosion research

Research on microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) of structural materials has entered a new phase in recent years, driven by advances in microbial analysis techniques. These developments are making it possible to elucidate the correlations among material microstructure and properties, corrosion behavior, and microbial dynamics involved in the process. To capture the complexity of MIC phenomena, collaboration between materials science and microbiology is essential. In this session, we will explore recent findings from both fields and discuss the development of materials science approaches to MIC, as well as the potential for new research seeds from a multidisciplinary perspective.
